TERROIR
A TERRITORY
The Molise region is full of surprises and in this ancient land you can discover tales of the fierce, fearless Samnite Pentro warriors. The territory carries a voice and strength that it has inherited from civilisations that have left their their mark: the Samnites, Romans and Lombards that gave birth to the Contado di Molise, and the Normans when the Toponym Comitatus Molisil began to establish itself and bequeathed an identity to a territory that would be preserved over the centuries.
Arriving in Isernia, in the heart of the Pentro area you are met with an extraordinarily uncontaminated territory where wines are produced that are slow maturing and therefore suitable for extensive aging, creating full flavoured blends that have distinctive flavours and aromas, an expression of this undiscovered and unadulterated territory.
A RIVER
The Volturno river begins in the Mainarde Mountain range, in the town of Rocchetta al Volturno, the most Southern facing part of the Central Apennines as well as being one of the five towns that together make up the Abbruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park. In Castel San Vincenzo it receives water from the source of Capo Volturno (approximately 500m asl). The Volturno river is the most important river in Southern Italy for both length and river flow. During the 7th century the important Abbey of San Vincenzo al Volturno was founded to the left of the river bank which today remains a thriving monastery.
A MOUNTAIN
The Sannita Apennines run from Forlì between the provinces of l’Aquila and Isernia to the Valley of the river Calore. The Matese Karstic Plateau that culminates in the Miletto mountain range (2050 m), situated on the border between the provinces of Campobasso and Caserta between Molise and Campania in the most distinctive mountain range belonging to this part of the Apennines. It is formed by two North-West, South-East parallel mountain ranges forming a rough, rocky plateau and marks the border between Molise and Campania. These are joined by smaller ranges such as Monte Mutria (1882 m) and Monte Calvello, (1018 m) on the Eastern side and Monte Trebulani and other minor ranges that decrease towards the Volturno river from Venafro to Benevento on the Western border.

THE FIELDS
The name Campi Valerio, ‘the field’, symbolises more than a piece of land, it represents the family and the Territory’s origins. In fact wines have been produced in this area as far back as 500 BC. It embodies the vegetable garden, vines and olive groves that have offered sustenance to families, creating and passing on a timeless set of values.
The fields reap the benefits from the Apennine Mountains whereby each drop of water creates unique, small parcels of fertile land.
These fields are a territorial heritage rich in values, traditions, passion and a great respect for this territory.
